Penang, Malaysia

The Silicon Valley of the East

Penang, known as the “Silicon Valley of the East,” is a vibrant city in Malaysia that has emerged as a major tech hub in South East Asia. Nestled on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Penang stands as a beacon of innovation and economic prowess, particularly in the semiconductor industry.

52 Years of Industrial Development

The extensive experience has cultivated a mature and comprehensive ecosystem that supports all aspects of semiconductor manufacturing, from research and development to assembly and testing.

Contribution To Global Semiconductor Output

Penang accounts for approximately 13% of worldwide assembly and test final products. This substantial market share solidifies Penang’s reputation as a key player in the semiconductor industry, with its products reaching markets across the globe.

Pool of Talented Workforce

One of Penang’s key strengths lies in its pool of highly skilled engineers, cultivated by multinational corporations operating in the region. For instance, Intel alone boasts a workforce of over 6,000 research and development engineers in Greater Penang.

Lower Operational Expenditure

Penang offers a competitive advantage in terms of cost efficiency, particularly in comparison to other major semiconductor hubs like Shanghai and China. The cost of employing engineers in Penang is significantly lower, approximately one-third of the cost in Shanghai and half that of China.
